One
of the biggest sports game failure was about to get renewed. But was it its
title or the game itself?
A little while ago I
came to the existence of the inexistence of one of the biggest sports game
title of the year. Sports games have always been a big part of the game
industry as they’re liked by non-gamers and gamers alike; its leading company
made a big step introducing back NBAlive after its infamous failure in 2010/11,
and was about to make a bigger one the year after.
Let’s
take a step back to 1995, EA decided to make the first real NBA game for the
earlier generation of consoles (SNES, Sega, etcc…), they decided to make
NBAlive1995. Big, cool game, so let’s make a new one every year; or so was EA’s
way of thinking… and they did make a new one every year.
Everything seemed to
be going well up until 2010/11, when they decided to step it up a bit with NBA
Elite’11. Big flop and the game was cancelled; the company took a big
sentimental hit and decided to stop making NBAlive games… or so we thought.
After 3 years of
hiatus EA shows up with NBAlive’13; Man, they shouldn’t have done that. Going
back on their word EA cancels NBAlive’13 for “Disappointing” development.
Now 2013/14 EA
finally delivers NBAlive’14 with big expectations, too bad it didn’t step up to
its word and even received an awarding 36/100 on Metacritic.
NBAlive’15 was
supposed to be delivered this October. Sean O’Brian released a whole article
about the game, 500+ improvements, for next gen consoles only, better than ’13
which seemed to leak on visuals, quoting Sean O’Brian “Visuals not up to
expectations for a next-gen title.” The game will also display better looking
characters and Schemes + Philosophies learned by coaches; what a “Solid Plan.”
A couple nights ago
I received information by an anonymous source that NBAlive’15 might be another
one of the series’ failures; yes that means it MIGHT be cancelled. Why? Is the real question, I don’t know
why because I didn’t have time to get into too much detail but I can theorize.
EA’s servers seem to be not as tough as the company thinks, as seen with
SimCity, or it might be that the National Basketball Association has something
to do with it.
I only know this
much but you are free to theorize in the comments at your will.
What
do you think about this possible flop? What do you think might be the cause? Do
you think they really will cancel the game?
As
always tell me in the comment section below.
